About the Project,
As a child in East Prussia (1940s) my wife learned many traditional
songs, including some charming carols that I had not heard before. I wrote
English lyrics and instrumental accompaniments for several of them, to share
with my amateur musical friends: vocalists, keyboardists, string players and
wind players. The idea was to involve any singer and any instrumentalist
who happened to be available. Thus, there is an 11-song book for soprano & alto
singers with strummed guitar, for soprano & alto singers with keyboard,
for soprano & alto singers with classical guitar, for 3-, 4- and 5-part
ensembles of recorders, flutes,
and/or strings in any combination, for a beginner playing any instrument,
for mixed chorus, soprano & alto singers (original German lyrics) with
keyboard.

We have used these scores in every way imaginable - house-music circles,
unrehearsed singalongs in churches, concerts in churches
and concerts in an auditorium - about three such events per season since
1995. Several of the songs have been arranged for mixed chorus and small orchestra
and used in more professional concerts.
The original song titles are: Am Weihnachtsbaum die Lichter brennen,
Froehliche Weihnacht ueberall, Lasst uns froh und munter sein, Ihr Kinderlien
kommet, Alle Jahre wieder, Heiligste Nacht, Kling Gloeckchen, Leise rieselt
der Schnee, Singt und klingt, Suesser die Glocken nie klingen, Weisst du
wieviel Sternlien stehen.
